A chrysalis is a butterfly pupa, the word comes from the Greek language for gold as butterflies often have a brighter pupa than other insects. The raku glazes on the outside of the chrysalis are just a hint of the beautiful butterfly colours hidden within the chrysalis skin. Each porcelain chrysalis is hand formed, bisque fired then glazed with raku glazes and finally raku fired. They are hung within an oak frame on fine steel rope.
In recent years some species of butterfly have become extent whilst many more are in decline due to habitat loss, pesticides and climate change.
